The official launch of The International Year Of Natural Fibres 2009 (IYNF) will take place on 22nd January, 2009 at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome as the organisers also appeal for further funding in a bid to ensure the success of the IYNF. Global events for the textile industry will include a Natural Fibres exhibition and symposium in China, the Combined New Zealand and Australia conference of The Textile Institute, International Natural Fibres Congress, Germany and the International Conference on Fairtrade and organic cotton in Interlaken, Switzerland. In September, 2009 the 10th International Cotton Conference entitled „Natural Fibres – Their Attractiveness in Multidirectional Applications” will be held in Gdynia, as the Polish contribution to the IYNF 2009. The Conference is organized by the Gdynia Cotton Association, Technical University of Łodz, Institute of Natural Fibres and Textile Research Institute. However the success of the IYNF is dependent on the input received from the industry and governments and currently says it is in desperate need of funding to help run its events and support future activities which promote the use and awareness of natural fibres such as cotton, linen and silk. Governments have previously donated large amounts of money to UN organised International Year events and IYNF organisers are hopeful that this year the industry will also provide the necessary marketing support to ensure a successful year. source: Ecotextilenews
