A new tool for importers and exporters of hazardous chemicals, has been introduced by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to manage the import and export of very hazardous chemicals in supply chains.
ePIC, a new IT-tool for exporters and importers of certain hazardous chemicals, is said to enable EU member states, importers, exporters, the European Commission and ECHA to manage the import and export of hazardous chemicals with securely exchanged information. The tool will reportedly fully replace the European Commission tool EDEXIM (the European Database of Export and Import of Dangerous Chemicals) by the end of this year.
The Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade is implemented within the European Union by the PIC Regulation, which administers the import and export of certain hazardous chemicals, placing obligations on companies who export these chemicals to non-EU countries.
