On 22 – 23 November 2007, the meeting of cotton experts and laboratories’ representatives was held in GCA. The new Universal Standards for Colour and Leaf of American Upland Cotton received in September from the USDA were presented as well as current standards for medium-staple Uzbek cotton. During the meeting the most important aspects of cotton evaluation and the situation on world and Polish textile markets were discussed.
Mr Zbigniew Roskwitalski, the GCA Vice Presidentpresented the current state of textile markets, in particular of the EU ons. He informed about the activities carried by organisations (Eurocoton, Euratex) aiming at hindering the process of destruction of the European industries which follows from unjustified expansion and unfair competition on the part of Chinese and other Asian countries’ producers.
Two presentations were made: “Cotton Markets in the World and in Poland – November 2007” by Andrzej Drozdz (GCA) and “Yarns and Fabrics Quality and Faults” where Dr Małgorzata Matusiak (Textile Research Institute – Lodz) presented: the team realising the project, scope of investigation, testing methods and the way of faults database creation.
On the second day of the meeting, the manual classification training on samples of cottons of various origins was conducted and the results were compared with the HVI results received in the GCA Laboratory.
The meeting was attended by 22 persons.
On 22 November 2007, the Value Differences Committee session was held and the Value Differences Tables No. 2/2007 were established.
