On 30 May 2014, in the Cotton House of the Gdynia Cotton Association, the annual General Assembly of the GCA members was held.
The Assembly endorsed the Board of Directors’ report on their activity in 2013, the 2014 budget was passed as well as directions of activity and main tasks to be realized in the current reporting period.
In the Directive Resolution, the GCA reminded about the necessity of supporting the Polish and European sector of textile-clothing industry in the light of more and more intense competition. An appeal was addressed to the state administration and European institutions for continuation of initiatives which were commenced lately and which are directed towards restitution and a stable growth of the industry in the EU countries.
The President of the Polish Chamber of Flax and Hemp – Mr Marek Radwanski informed the audience about a new initiative of the European branch organisation – the “European Flax” emblem which is to promote the European flax. He also expected continuation of works in order to implement the sectoral programme aimed at revitalisation of flax in Poland.
Professor Iwona Frydrych (Textile University in Lodz) informed that Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design TUL has been equipped with most modern devices for apparel designing, (for instance – a 3D scanner allowing virtual fittings). This is to attract as many students to study in the University, as possible. The Chairman of the General Assembly – Mr Jacek Jakubiak, paid also attention to the need of reactivation of vocational and technical education institutions – as the employers complain not only about lack of engineers but also of a medium-level qualified personnel and skilled workers for textile industry
Dr Malgorzata Zimniewska, prof. of Institute of Natural Fibres and Medicinal Plants invited the gathered members to take part in the 2nd Fair of Technical Textile Products and in the Innovatex Conference accompanying the Fair (Lodz, 16-17 October 2014).
